The Swarm closed out their 2013 regular season with a pair of strong wins over cross-town rivals the West Auckland Admirals. With the race for the Grand Final going down to the wire, the six points on the table would be critical for the Swarm's hopes of making it to a sixth appearance in the Final.
While the Admirals have had a tough season, with only one win to their name coming into the weekend, it was never going to be a case of taking victory for granted, as the Auckland derby ha...

Josh Hay has has been an integral member of the Botany Swarm ever since their inaugural season in the NZIHL in 2005. Josh's biggest asset has always been his speed which has created plenty of headaches for opposing defensemen and goalies. Josh had a particularly strong season in 2006, carrying his team to the 2006 NZIHL Finals where he was named Finals MVP. Josh was also a huge offensive asset when the team won 4 titles in 5 years during 2007 to 2011. His solid play also saw him named Botany ...Read Full Post »

The Botany Swarm won their final regular season match-up against the Dunedin Thunder in fine fashion, putting 8 goals on the board to the Thunder’s single one. Thanks to Ice Fern Libby-Jean Hay for providing the following match report!
It was a very exciting and nail-biting start to the weekend against the Dunedin Thunder, but unfortunately it went down to the last moment with the Thunder winning in overtime. Notably, it was also Joshua Hay's 100th NZIHL game with 99 points, so there was no little pressure at all for him to gain his 100th point to mark the occasion.
Michael Hopkinson started in net, ...Read Full Post »

After winning Saturday's game by such a dramatic margin, the Swarm were prepared for the Admirals to come out strongly in the rematch the next day -- and they weren't disappointed. The Admirals had proven themselves capable of a comeback the week prior, almost pulling off an upset victory against the Stampede after having taken quite the beating in their Friday game, and it would've been a mistake to assume a second victory for the Swarm was guaranteed.
Bearing this in mind,...Read Full Post »
