The Botany Swarm are pleased to welcome the first of our 2014 Import players, Garrett Ferguson.
Hailing from Vibank, Saskatchewan, Garrett is an offensively talented defenceman, averaging over a point per game in his career in both Junior hockey and at the college hockey level.
Garrett was a key member of the championship-winning Pilot Butte Storm in the Prairie Junior Hockey League from 2006 – 2010, with the team making the postseason all four years, and winning the championship in 2007 and 2008.
Another product of the ACHA, Garrett spent three seasons with Minot State University in North Dakota, culminating in their first championship win in 18 years as they picked up the Murdoch Cup as ACHA champions in 2013.
Garrett has plenty of experience in leading on and off the ice, wearing the C for the Pilot Storm Butte in 2008, and wearing an A as alternate captain for the Minot State Beavers. He prides himself on being defensively responsible at both ends of the ice, and plays a fast, gritty game, putting a bigger presence on the ice than his 5'10 height might suggest.
While he's scored plenty of goals in his time, Garrett is also the consummate set-up player, picking up over a hundred assists in his Junior career. He has also played forward as well as defence, demonstrated a well-rounded skill set and responsibility, all of which will be assets for the Swarm this coming season.
