The Botany Swarm are excited to welcome back Brandon Contratto, their 2013 and 2014 team leading scorer, for his third NZIHL season.
In 32 games with the Swarm, Brandon has posted 93 points (46 goals, 47 assists). His high-scoring offensive abilities are complemented by his commitment to defensive responsibility, and fits well with the Swarm's puck possession style of play. He also brings a huge amount of experience in playing hockey at all levels all over the world, and is well-known as a player who brings out the best in the players around him.
His contributions to New Zealand Ice Hockey over the past few years as both a coach and player have helped both Auckland and National Rep players alike to elevate their games, improving the level of play here and also helping to grow the game in NZ.
He has been busy over the offseason, coaching Junior A hockey in Canada, as well as playing 10 games with the Berkshire Battalion in the US-based FHL professional league, playing as a defenseman alongside 2014 import Jeff Sanders. Brandon posted 12 points in those 10 games, in keeping with his impressive career numbers at all levels.
When asked what his highlights of the 2014 season were, Brandon replied "The three straight wins against the Canterbury Red Devils, because we showed how strong our team can be, and that we can be the team to beat in the NZIHL when we work as a team and push ourselves to the highest level."
For the upcoming season, Brandon is looking forward to building off the last two years he has spent in New Zealand, and helping the team achieve their goal of winning the Birgel Cup.
