The Botany Swarm are happy to add to our 2015 roster another import from the growing hockey hotbed of Northern California. This season Oakland-born goaltender Frankie McClendon joins the Swarm from the Parry Sound Islanders of the Canadian GMHL.
The 22-year old goalie stands 5'11", and credits his ability to be quick with his feet and make sound technical saves as key to his talents in net. He prides himself on battling for the puck and never giving up, out-waiting shooters and reading the plays well.
Frankie started out as a defenseman, but has been playing goaltender since the age of 10, when he switched away and has never looked back. Frankie thrives under the challenge of the pressure and dedication required to play in goal, and is excited to be here in New Zealand to play for the Swarm.
Frankie is looking forward to the fast pace and high intensity of playing in the NZIHL, and to get to see plenty of the country while he's here. He's particularly looking forward to the Queenstown and Christchurch road trips, but says he's "mainly hoping to get wins for the Botany Swarm and have a successful season here."
