This Saturday’s match against the Canterbury Red Devils is a hugely significant one for Botany Swarm veteran forward KC Ball, who will play his 150th NZIHL game in a career which spans 12 seasons.
KC has been a key member of the Swarm ever since their inaugural season in the NZIHL back in 2005. Since then, he has gone on to become Swarm’s all-time leading scorer in goals (64), assists (94) and points (158). He is currently 4th all-time in NZIHL points, 4th in assists, and 5th in goals.
KC was an integral part of the Swarm side which won 4 NZIHL championships in 5 years between 2007-2011. He also acted as player/assistant coach for 5 years between 2008-2012. KC has always been a leader in the team, and in particular he has helped immensely with the development of many of the younger players in the squad over the years.
He also represented New Zealand at international level, donning the Ice Blacks jersey at 2 IIHF World Championships, and winning a gold medal in Division 3 in Dunedin in 2009.
KC is a dedicated family man, spending his time outside of work and the rink with his wife and 2 young girls.
KC will become just the second player in NZIHL history to reach the 150-game mark, joining Swarm captain Andrew Hay who achieved the milestone in the final game of the 2015 season. KC continues to be a vital part of a Swarm side that continues on its quest for the 2016 NZIHL championship.
On behalf of the entire Botany Swarm organisation, congratulations to KC on such a magnificent achievement and career so far!
