Report by Corey McEwen, Botany Swarm Assistant Coach
The Botany Swarm opened its 2019 season this past weekend, in action hosting the West Auckland Admirals in a pair of games at Paradice Ice Rink in Botany. With the Admirals having claimed the Birgel Cup Championship in 2018, these games were going to be hard-fought by both clubs.
Corey’s comments: “What a weekend to kick off the start of the season! I’m very proud of how far the team has come in the last month, we’ve started to click as a team on and off the ice and things are starting to come together. The weekends hockey was fast, intense and very physical. The level of intensity we all played at was great to see, and the boys worked hard and stuck to the system. There was action on both ends of the rink and this showed as both games had really close scorelines. For me having played my first two games for the Swarm, both games were very exciting, and fast-paced hockey.
The fans from both teams were awesome, very loud and totally into the game. We appreciate the support from our home fans and hope to see you all again in a couple weeks!”
Sunday’s game against the West Auckland Admirals marked Andrew Hay’s 200th game for the Botany Swarm. See a further news post here. Congratulations Andrew!
