First Period
The Swarm took an early lead on an unassisted goal from Kyle Jonsson, and doubled that near the end of the period, as Robin Vortanov scored with the assist from Stephen Mawson. The Swarm have also had a few chances go off the crossbar, and been robbed on a couple of saves by the Red Devils goaltender. In net for the Swarm, Grace Harrison has stood tall and kept things under control on the defense, with a particularly good stick save on Dallimore.
The Swarm lead 2-0 after a much more focused and disciplined first period.
Second Period
In what was very much a period of two halves, the Swarm dominated the first ten minutes, adding a third and fourth goal back to back on almost identical shots, wrapping around the post and sliding just over the line, with Reid Cole and Eddie Commons scoring within 13 seconds. The Red Devils made a goalie change to follow the fourth goal, and the Swarm added an early fifth goal, with Ritchie Hopkinson scoring off the face-off.
However, the momentum started to swing towards the Red Devils as the period wore on, and a series of penalties by the Swarm saw them gift the Devils a 5-on-3 powerplay, which they converted on, and added insult to injury by scoring on the 5-on-4 which followed. Another penalty late in the period saw the Devils score their third power point goal of the evening, bringing them within two of the visitors.
The Swarm will start the third period with 85s remanining on a penalty kill.
After two periods, the Swarm lead 5-3 over the Red Devils.
Third Period
The Swarm knuckled down and played a sound third period, staying out of the box and adding a couple more goals to their tally.
Robin Vortanov scored his second of the night early in the period, sneaking behind the defense to take advantage on a clear breakaway, and Josh Whitston-Lee added the Swarm’s seventh goal with a great show of persistence, taking a couple whacks at a loose puck in front of the Devils’ net and getting it over the line.
The Swarm close this one out with a final score of 7-3 over the Red Devils, splitting the weekend’s results and bringing 3 standings points home with them.
SWARM WIN!
