First Period
The Red Devils scored early again, Apps converting on a 2-on-1 as one of the back checkers caught an edge. They followed this up with a powerplay goal for Eaden in the last few seconds of one penalty, and added a second on a delayed penalty from Pospisil.
The Swarm had a powerplay themselves shortly after, but weren’t able to convert on any of their chances with the man advantage. They did maintain pressure in the offensive zone, moving the puck effectively, and a blistering shot from Remy Sandoy in the high slot rebounded out to Stephen Mawson who skated right in to unleash a pinpoint one-timer for the Swarm’s first of the game.
Shots are nearly even, 15-13 in favour of the home side, and the Swarm have some ground to make up in the next frame.
Not quite as good news after period one today, as the Swarm trail 3-1.
Second Period
In a period that was a little more even in terms of pressure and notable largely for penalties taken by both sides, the only score came from Chris Eaden with his second of the night, loosed on a mini-breakaway and firing it five-hole. The Swarm turned in some marathon efforts on the penalty kill, including a lengthy 4-on-3, with the skaters blocking shots and forcing pucks out and goaltender Grace Harrison making some sharp stops.
The Swarm will begin period three with twenty-one seconds left on a penalty kill as they finish the second period – the Swarm trail 4-1.
Third Period
Huge efforts from Harrison and the special teams through the third period kept the Red Devils off of the board entirely for the final frame, and two timely goals in the last few minutes saw the Swarm tie it up.
They got there with a laser from the blue line from Ollie Hay with the goaltender pulled on a 4-on-4, and followed up with a greasy one from right in the crease by Ondrej Kozak with just 44s remaining in regulation.
Overtime saw both teams get their chances, with a few heart-stoppingly close shots, but it was a rocket from Vortanov that secured the victory for the Swarm this evening.
The Swarm take this one in OT with a game-winner from Robin Vortanov securing a 5-4 victory over the Red Devils and two points in the standings for the Swarm.
SWARM WIN!
