The Swarm lead 1-0 after the first period in Dunedin vs the Phoenix Thunder, with Ondrej Kozak potting an early goal off a rebound, assisted by Ritchie Hopkinson.
Early in the middle frame, Heyd tied it up getting the Phoenix Thunder on the board, but the Swarm responded with a couple of strong offensive shifts, and only a couple minutes later Reid Cole put the Swarm ahead again, and Ritchie Hopkinson added a third, going five-hole on the Phoenix Thunder’s goalie.
It should be an exciting third period with the Phoenix Thunder defending their home opener.
The Swarm lead 3-1 after forty minutes in their first game of the weekend versus the Phoenix Thunder.
The Phoenix Thunder once again scored early in the period, as Ian Audas scored his first in the NZIHL, but the Swarm also once again answered back rapidly, as Robin Vortanov scored on a 5-on-3 powerplay, and Oliver Hay added a goal a minute later at even strength.
The Phoenix Thunder added one final goal from Harford to threaten a comeback, but the Swarm got an insurance goal from Kyle Jonsson and closed out regulation with another powerplay.
The Swarm played spoiler on a milestone night for the Phoenix Thunder, taking the first game of the weekend by a final score of 6-3.
